Advocacy

We are increasing our presence on the ground to grow our movement and make change.

We are involved in Solidarity Circles with Green Olive Collective in which participants attend monthly online meetings with residents of Palestinian communities in the West Bank to maintain sustained and direct relationships of solidarity with Palestinians, amplify the voices of people living under occupation, support on-the-ground activism in the West Bank, and become ambassadors for change in their local communities.

To commemorate the horrors of October 7th and the subsequent war, Halachic Left joined IfNotNow’s initiative, Every Life a Universe Memorial Gatherings. We joined memorials in Boston, Chicago, LA, New York, Philadelphia, and DC. Speakers listed names of those who have died, shared poetry and song, and reinvigorated a commitment to a ceasefire and hostage deal as the only viable solution.

On Tisha B’Av we organized and helped publicize all-day public vigils to show our observant Jewish communities that we understand the destruction of Gaza is intimately related to our own history of destruction and expulsion. Maintaining a mournful tone, we engaged with passersby, handed out explanatory materials, and held signs containing text from Tanach. In New York City, we were honored to be joined by mayoral candidate Brad Lander.

In June we organized an Emergency Prayer Gathering in front of the Israeli Consulate in NYC. We davened mincha, recited tehillim, and shared words of Torah to cried out over the desecration of Hashem’s name perpetrated by Israel in Gaza. You can see press coverage from JTA of our event here.
